Course material
In the next few weeks we will be starting some new units. We will be working more on our understanding of addition in math, in history we will start talking about Lewis and Clark, in english we will be focusing primarily on the starting sounds of words, and in science we will be starting our plant experiement. For the plant experiement each student will plant a seed and we will be applying different treatments to different groups of plants. The students will be grouped in groups of 6 and they will together choose what treatment they want to apply to their seeds.
First field trip
We have been talking about what do to for our first field trip coming up in the next month. In class we have been looking at a lot of different science topics and it was decided that we will take our trip either to The Magic House or to the Science Center. I would appriciate any feedback on these two options if you have any. We will be voting as a class next week on which we would like to go to so if you could talk to your students about what each place has to offer and help them make a decision of their own that would be great. I will get more information out as I finalize this trip.
Parents, when you talk with your students it may be beneficial for you to look at the websites for both the Science Center and The Magic House with your student so they can get an idea of what each place is like.
Welcome Class
For the first week of class we will be doing a lot involving rules for school. Since it is the student's first year in school we will be talking about things that you do and do not do in school and we will be coming up with a set of classroom rules for each and every one of us to follow. We will go over the consequences for not following the rules and the students will understand by the end of the week how the rest of the year will work. I think this will make the rest of our school year go much more smoothly.
